Jazz Club Jury proudly presents Jazz Interlude, a series of concerts that will bring jazz to the top of the world. First event of the year: a jazz weekend with London saxophonist Dave O’Higgins.
As we had already mentioned in our article at the end of last year, 2013 will be a spectacular year full of surprises. At the top of the list there is Jazz Interlude. Every month we will bring some of the best and most renowned jazz musicians to Helsinki’s Koko Jazz Club. A new and exciting way to experience jazz this side of Europe, like never before. After last year’s ‘music appetizer’, the Nordic Sounds concert, it is time to really get the party started. Write these dates down: January 26th and 27th.
In the last weekend of January, London saxophone ace, Dave O’Higgins, will warm Helsinki’s cold winter night and day with his explosive hot live music. A regular on the international jazz scene, Dave has recorded 13 albums as bandleader with various lineups. He has shared the stage with Jim Mullen, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, the BBC Big Band and Jimmy Smith, to name only a few.
Accompanied by some of Finland’s finest Sibelius Academy musicians – Jukkis Uotila on piano, Jussi Lehtonen on drums and Eero Seppä on bass – the charismatic Dave O’Higgins will perform tunes from his neo-bop repertoire. The first set will start at 9pm (doors open at 8pm) and the seated admission fee is 20€ for regular tickets, for students and seniors only 15€.
On the following day, Sunday January 27th, the Dave O’Higgins weekend will continue with the exclusive jazz brunch. O’Higgins and the accompanying band will be joined on stage by the brilliant vibraphonist Severi Pyysalo and will be in charge of the event’s ‘musical frame’. Starting from 12 (doors will open at 11am) a delicious buffet, featuring some top classic English delights will be served. Jazz Interlude’s Sunday brunch, represents a unique chance to experience jazz combined with delicious food and beverages.
The jazz weekend with Dave O’Higgins is only the first in a long list of acts that Jazz Interlude will bring to you. If you live in the Helsinki area, or you are planning to visit the city, make sure to check out the calendar to see who is performing and when.
