Jazz Interlude with Tony Kofi & Friends

Jazz Interlude is back, with a new electrifying performance!  Special guest of the evening will be British saxophone master Tony Kofi. The event, organised in collaboration with Koko Jazz Club and Jazz Club Jury, will be on Saturday March 23rd, starting from 21 at Koko (Hämeentie 3).

The Nottingham-born Kofi, also a music instructor, is a graduate of the legendary Berklee College of Music in Boston and has won several prestigious prizes: the BBC Jazz Awards in 2005 (Best Ensemble) and 2008 (Album of the Year), he has been nominated for a MOBO award in 2008 and has been awarded the 2005 Parliamentary Jazz Awards (in the Best Ensemble category). During his career Tony Kofi has collaborated with big names such as Billy Higgins, Clifford Jarvis and Byron Wallen.

At Jazz Interlude Kofi will be joined on stage by his music friends: bass guitar player Ville Huolman, pianist, Jussi Fredriksson and André Sumelius on drums. A member of the UMO Orchestra, Huolman has performed in Sweden, Germany, French and Syria, as well as during the Presidential Reception on Finnish Independence Day. The Helsinki-based Sumelius, a long-time music partner of Huolman’s, is drummer and composer, as well as producer. He has recently released the album People, Stories and Dreams! with his band Tonight at Noon. Jussi Fredriksson, a composer and producer too, is a talented pianist and keyboard player who has participated at the Young Nordic Jazz Comets competition and has acted as Artistic Director of the Korpo Sea Jazz Festival in 2011.

Jazz Interlude with Tony Kofi & Friends represents a unique chance to see a live show by one of the most successful and critically acclaimed contemporary UK-based jazz saxophonists, as well as some of Finland’s most talented jazzists. Come and enjoy the quartet’s thrilling show with compositions by the great Thelonious Monk.

See you on Saturday!
